Who is required to enrol in the Swiss KVG-LAMal ?

Who is mandatorily subjected to the Swiss national health insurance scheme KVG-LAMal ?

Every persons who reside in Switzerland for more than 3 months must mandatorily enrolled in the Swiss national health insurance Scheme KVG-LAMal.

Exceptions

The law except a small numbers of persons to obtain an exemption of the Swiss national health insurance Scheme KVG-LAMal and therefore can choose another insurance solution :

Foreign students, interns and au pairs, can, with some conditions, be exempted from the Swiss national health insurance scheme KVG-LAMal. This is possible if they can proof that they have a sufficient insurance that will cover at least the same benefits as the Swiss national health insurance scheme KVG-LAMal. Some internatioenal civil servants, diplomates or Cern members can be exempted from the Swiss national health insurance scheme KVG-LAMal.
